The Voices series is about conveying dignity and honouring the stories of Indigenous women’s fight for recognition for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous women who are unable to speak for themselves. While the message is at the heart of the images, the vivid portraits communicate the strength and resilience of the community. This work is about connecting the whole community to these stories – both Indigenous and not. Paying tribute to these women in a dignified and non-exploitive way is extremely important to Leeder.
The beautifully meaningful works of art are created to celebrate the stories and culture of Indigenous peoples across the nation. It is their turn to speak, and our turn to listen to their stories. Visually and through the spoken and written word.
Along with owning and operating Preston Gallery in BiA Photography, Leeder currently works as a photographer for the Hockey Hall of Fame.
