Artist Statement
My work presently deals with issues of mass travel, including both the economic benefits and cultural challenges associated with it. Travel broadens one’s perspectives on the world and of one’s own cultural, but it also has many unintended consequences.
I graduated with my BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1987, studying under such artists as Riduan Tompkins, Nancy Edell, Ed Porter and Medrie McPhee. I am the past editor of Visual Arts News (Visual Arts Nova Scotia) as well as the NSCAD Alumni News. After taking a course with the Atlantic Filmmakers Coop, I had a short film exhibited at the Atlantic Film Festival in 1998. After retiring from a career mostly in communications, I like to call myself a “re-emerging artist.” I maintain a regular BLOG that serves as my on-line art journal at https://rickjansonartstudio.ca
