Lynn McDonald

Jazz Musician

Artist Statement

Having sung all over the globe for 35 years and teaching jazz at York U for 20 years, my purpose on earth is to support and foster growth to a very traditional music genre , Jazz. The dedication of Jazz Musicians is unthinkable with the cost of living these days. I established a Jazz Listening Society in 1998. I bring touring, Toronto, musicians to a listening audience and pay them properly and treat them with respect. That way, retirees and local people have no need to travel to the Big City where it costs big money to park even!!

I believe that small town living is the best there is. The one thing missing for me was Jazz Music, my Life’s passion. It turns out I have garnered kindred spirits who love the improving and excitement of instrumental jazz and the skill and story-telling in a good Jazz Vocal. This is a WIN WIN situation. The Arts in Scugog are not all mainstream but very hip and up-to-date. As Pianist Don Thompson once said to me, “Lynn, you’re so out of the loop. you’ve got your own loop”.
