Gerald Mouland
Painter
Gerald Mouland is a landscape painter residing in Uxbridge, Ontario; he aims to capture his surroundings at home and through travel. His painting style borders realism with broad painterly brush strokes.
Born and raised on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, the dramatic coastal views coupled with forested hills, was the backdrop that drew Gerald to landscape painting as a child. His inspiration is taken from his experiences and connection to nature.
Gerald prefers to start each painting with a plein air study before taking that study and allowing it to inform larger works back at his studio. This allows him to capture the fleeting light and shadow, connecting the painting to a specific moment. He uses a plein air box of his design, made from birch, allowing him to carry 10”x12” wet panels.
Gerald has a BFA in Visual Arts. He studied at Memorial University of Newfoundland: Grenfell where he focused on oil painting among other disciplines.
