Dana Mesesan

Visual Artist

Dana is a mechanical engineer by trade and worked in the design and manufacturing of architectural lighting fixtures for more than 20 years, but her real passion lies in the arts. When she turned 50, Dana decided to become a full-time visual artist. Painting has always been her passion but in 2017 she discovered steampunk art. Dana fell in love with the process and for the last four years, she has been working to find her own style.

Starting a new career late in life makes Dana feel like a kid in a candy shop. She wants to try every medium available in the most unconventional way. Dana is not good with words so painting or building 3D stories with objects, colours and textures, helps her express her values and feelings. She is always looking for out-of-the-box ideas and processes. Being an ‘engineer turned artist’, science, technology and art will always intertwine.

Danas’ art is fueled by spontaneity; any object can become a canvas. She is incredibly passionate about recycling and upcycling; building 3D installations with repurposed objects spanning from computer components, and recycled plastic to old jewelry. The objects intertwine sometimes randomly, sometimes orderly and let the idea or the story, emerge. The more unconventional the object, the more she enjoys the challenge and the process.

The duality between nature and the human mind fascinates Dana. What’s right and what’s wrong it’s a matter of perspective
