“My hope as an artist is to share the joy I find in nature, expressed through art, in order to inspire passion in others. I find my inspiration all around me in nature, but especially in the animals I work with every day as a zookeeper.“
Animals have always been my passion. From a young age, I knew I wanted a career that involved animals. In 2013 I graduated from the University of Guelph with a Major in Animal Biology. After a few summers of working seasonally at the Toronto Zoo, I joined their staff as a full-time Zookeeper in 2016. I now spend my days caring for the incredible animals that call the Toronto Zoo home. I am constantly inspired to capture the magnificence of these animals in my art to share them with others.
Art has long since been the other passion in my life. Over the years it has taken many different forms: sketching, photography, wood carving, pyrography, and my more recent focus on acrylic and watercolour painting.
When it comes to painting, there has been a lot of trial and error, and I have no doubt that this will continue. I learn something new with every painting I do. It has been an exciting adventure as I slowly explore new styles and techniques and expand my skills. My main focus at the moment, in both acrylic and watercolour, is working on loosening up my style and playing with the use of bold colours.
