Astrid Hood
Acrylic Painter
Influenced by living on the shore of Lake Scugog, Astrid’s artworks often capture scenes of water, sunsets, nature and serenity. With the use of acrylic paints, many her works are bold and impactful demonstrating nature’s wonder.
Prior to retiring from the corporate world, Astrid worked as a freelance Landscape
Architect. Years working with Metro Conservation and Ministry of Natural Resources had the most impact on her artistic style, themes and philosophy in depicting art in the landscape. Since moving to the Kawartha Lakes area, her home is now in the Washburn lsland community on the shores of Lake Scugog where she can enjoy her love of the outdoors full time. Her art often gets inspired by daily sunset views and continual activities of wildlife, particularly water fowl and birds to create landscapes not only canvas paintings but artworks on furniture, upholstery, wood and canoe paddles. Her latest art style to experiment with is Woodland School Art Style influenced by Canadian artists such as Norval Morrisseau.
Astrid has become an active member in the local arts communities. You will see her artwork on public display on Hwy 36, on the way to Bobcaygeon, as one of the selected pieces to beautify outdoor traffic control boxes in the town. Astrid is a professional Paint Nite Host and you will find her at local venues conducting public painting events in Port Perry and surrounding areas.
