Janet Vendrig
Painter
“I love how art can comfort and enrich our daily lives both as the artist and the collector. I use the rich, vibrant, warm colours of ochre and autumn in my serene acrylic and watercolour paintings inspired by my deep connection to the seasons and the natural spaces where I live, paint and play.”
Janet Vendrig lives near the quaint lakeside town of Port Perry, Ontario where she grew up drawing, painting and taking photos. Known to be quiet, focused, and observant she painted realistic animals and sketched character portraits while still in grade school. With no formal art training, Janet filled sketch and doodle books over the years inspired by her creative mother who was always knitting, crocheting, quilting, or painting in the evenings. Janet still finds the clicking sound of knitting needles soothing. She learned from an early age that art can comfort and enrich our daily lives both as the artist and the collector.
Janet’s work is inspired by a deep connection to the seasons and the natural spaces where she lives, paints and plays. She watches blue heron fishing, otters playing and maple trees changing colour from her riverside studio and home. Janet uses the warm vibrant colours of ochre and autumn in her serene acrylic and watercolour paintings while her fun watercolour animals are inspired by days spent at the farm.
When she is not painting, Janet can be found outdoors swimming, paddling, cycling, camping, gardening or skiing. She always has her nose in a good book in the evenings and also enjoys writing and baking (something chocolate of course) while spending treasured time with her husband, 2 dogs and grown children.
