About Us
Our Mission:
The Scugog Council for the Arts strives to provide a strong voice for the arts in Scugog Township. Through the facilitation of collaborative relationships among artists, organizations, businesses and government, the Council contributes to the vibrancy of the arts and community life.
History
Scugog Council for the Arts (SCA) is a source of cultural events, arts information, & support for artists and communities of Port Perry, Scugog & Durham Region.
Established in 2005, the SCA is a not-for-profit organization with a volunteer board of directors and is dedicated to providing a strong voice for arts and culture in Scugog Township and to promoting and growing the arts in all areas of the community. SCA members include individuals, businesses and organizations that participate in or support a vibrant local cultural scene, which includes theatre, music, dance, visual and graphic art, craft, literary arts, and arts education.
The SCA connects to its members and the general public through the website, a monthly newsletter, open meetings, and a variety of arts programming, including seminars, workshops and lectures. Free copies of the newsletter are available at the Scugog Memorial Public Library and local member galleries. The SCA is also actively involved in many of the major cultural events held throughout Scugog, often in partnership with other community and business associations. The SCA annually presents the Community in the Arts Awards in recognition of the many artists and supporters of the arts in Scugog and Showcase of the Arts, which includes an exhibition and sale of fine art and fine craft in all media and a performing arts concert.

Advocacy
The SCA aims to serve as a voice for artists and the arts within the community and to the world.
Communication and Information
The SCA provides a forum for the collaboration of arts organizations and individuals with each other and other community sectors such as business, government and education. These collaborations are supported by the maintenance of a database of artisans, art businesses, art and other aligned organizations and by disseminating relevant information and promoting ongoing research and partnerships related to the arts and community economic development in Scugog.
Business Development
The SCA supports a vibrant cultural community, encouraging the economic development of both the arts and other businesses by providing arts activities and services to raise the value and viability of the arts community, creating a valuable asset that also contributes to the encouragement of new artists and businesses in the Township.
